Moses Sight and Sound
“Moses” For the Family Vacation
For those of you who may be planning a destination vacation, especially a family vacation with children, I highly recommend the Sight & Sound Theatres’ presentation of “Moses.” The presentation is at Lancaster, PA, and features a Huntsville, Alabama, native, Jay Poff, portraying Moses. Jay does an outstanding job in the portrayal. Jay is also a very accomplished singer, and his talent is prominently illustrated throughout the presentation – with a very impressive display of emotions pertinent to the situation. It is physically active (combative) and exhausting and requires an extensive display of emotional expression. The on-stage production depicts Moses and his trials and accomplishments, both physical and spiritually. The production includes on-stage and through the audience (aisles) animals – sheep, goats, birds, camels, donkeys, and horses – for the amazement of all. The parting of the billowing Red Sea is impressively illustrated with special effects. Moses’ staff that turns into a snake takes place before your eyes. You feel immersed in the lives of the slaves and their rulers.
My wife and I were at the afternoon performance last Thursday, October 2, 2014, and the First Baptist Church, Huntsville, AL, had a group there a couple of weeks prior. We have had discussions with many of the Baptist group, and have heard nothing but praise of the presentation from the attendees. The presentations run through April 18, 2015.
The area around Lancaster is very important historically. The towns of Harrisburg, York, and Gettysburg are only a couple of hours away.
A posting from the Sight & Sound Theatres’ web site is below:
“Moses at Sight & Sound Theatres!
The parting of the Red Sea … the Burning Bush … the Plagues … the Ten Commandments … finally … the greatest Biblical epic of the Old Testament comes to life on the Sight & Sound stage in Lancaster County, PA – Moses! Journey back through time and relive the golden splendor and pride of ancient Egypt, the poverty and oppression of the Hebrew slaves and the humble, broken man that God raised up to become their deliverer. Not only will you be completely immersed in the spectacular, epic events of the story, but you will experience the humanity of Moses and the children of Israel as they struggle for faith, freedom and belonging. This incredible adventure is like none other for this is when God breaks into history and reveals who He is and that He has come to heal the brokenhearted and set the captives free!”
